Homeopathic Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

According to an estimate of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating condition that affects more than one million Americans. Its victims are much greater in number than those of multiple sclerosis, many types of cancer and lupus. The causes of the condition are still unknown, but it is commonly observed after an acute viral infection or overexertion (both mental and physical) due to a prolonged illness.

Symptoms

Symptoms of CFS are many and they vary considerably from person to person. In general, they include:

  • Excessive fatigue and weariness, often to the extent that getting up from a chair itself seems to be a great effort
  • Recurring or constant body pain or myalgia
  • Headaches
  • A general feeling of  weakness and ill health
  • Inability to concentrate for more than a short length of time
  • Irregular fluctuations in body temperature
  • Dizziness
  • Depression

The danger with these symptoms is that it is easy to mistake them for simple overexertion, advancing age or the pressures of modern life style. It is common to feel that a few days of rest will be a natural cure, but it turns out to be a serious mistake. There could be a small fall in the intensity of the symptoms after getting some extra rest, but they will return, often with increased strength, once normal activity is resumed.

Why homeopathy is the right choice

Antidepressants are prescribed in conventional medicine for CFS with no terrific effect. Homeopathy, on the other hand, is based on the holistic approach of treatment of the root cause of a medical condition in relation to patient-specific symptoms.

This is especially so in the case of a condition like CFS, where the cause is still being debated and the symptoms vary from patient to patient, from chronic to intermittent. Many homeopathic remedies are available that include the deeply acting constitutional medications like Phosphorus, Lycopodium, Pulsatilla, Nux vomica and Sepia. In addition, other remedies such as the following are recommended depending on the exact nature of the sickness:

  • Kali Phos to strengthen the brain cells and nerves to fight depression, anxiety, lack of concentration and other effects of CFS
  • Avena Sativa to nurture the brain and nervous system to fight off mental fatigue, irritability and so on
  • Phosphoric Acid to energize the mental processes and reduce the indifference and apathy that are common aspects of CFS
  • Picric Acid to treat mental fatigue and headaches triggered by intense physical activity
  • Gelsemium, a basic remedy for CFS to fight off the feeling of dullness and dizziness that comes with the sickness.

Although homeopathy is great and safe without side effects, self-diagnosis and self-medication can be dangerous, especially in the case of CFS. If you feel that you may be suffering from CFS, the right thing to do is to consult with a reputed homeopathic doctor.

CFS is a disease that can have a major impact on the quality of your life and by extension, that of your family and friends. With homeopathy offering effective treatment of the condition, there is no reason why you or your loved ones should suffer the avoidable effects of the condition.
